Risk Reduction (Verification)

Verify bank accounts and identities before you collect or pay out, eliminate failed transactions, prevent fraud, and reduce costs before they hit.

Risk Reduction (Verification) is the practice of confirming a customer's or beneficiary's bank account details and identity in real time before any payment is initiated. It is the first line of defence against the most common and preventable causes of payment failure: incorrect account numbers, closed accounts, identity mismatches, and fraudulent submissions. Delivered through AVS-R, this capability sits outside the payment flow, it is not a payment method, it is a pre-payment gate. Before your business submits a debit collection or releases a credit payout, AVS-R confirms that the account is open, active, and belongs to the person or entity you believe you are paying.

How it works

The business submits a verification request via API or batch file containing the account number and ID number (or business registration number). AVS-R queries the bank's systems in real time and returns a structured confirmation: whether the account is open, what type it is, and whether the submitted identity details match the bank's records. The result is available in seconds and informs whether the payment should proceed.

Business value

  • Reduces failed transaction rates by identifying invalid account details before submission
  • Prevents fraud by flagging accounts linked to stolen identities or incorrect ownership details
  • Saves on failed transaction fees, every prevented failure is a direct cost saving
  • Supports KYC and KYB compliance obligations without separate identity verification infrastructure
